Mulching in the bed of Lake Urmia has been stopped
Following the release of images of biological mulching in the bed of Lake Urmia, reports indicate that this operation has been halted.
Zahra Keshvari, a journalist in the field of environmental issues, wrote that the mulching was carried out without environmental permits, and the provincial Natural Resources Organization also claimed to be unaware of it.
According to Mehr News Agency, citing the public relations of the Environmental Protection Organization, the mulching project aims to stabilize moving sands and is being conducted experimentally on only 60 square meters of the lake bed that lacks vegetation.
According to this report, the biological mulch is decomposable and does not harm the lake’s ecosystem. Zahra Keshvari stated that biological mulch was first used in 2015 in the Jabal Kandi area near Lake Urmia, and provincial natural resources experts have evaluated the project as successful.
