Nahid Kiani advances to the Olympic final

Nahid Kiani from Iran reached the final of the women’s 57 kg taekwondo at the 2024 Olympics by winning two consecutive rounds against Laetitia Aoun from Lebanon.

In her first match, Kiani overcame Kimia Alizadeh, an Iranian taekwondo athlete from Bulgaria, in 3 rounds and in the final seconds.

In her second match, which also lasted 3 rounds, she defeated Chaimae Toumi from Tunisia.

Laetitia Aoun also lost to Kiani in the semifinals, making the victorious Kiani the first Iranian woman to claim an Olympic gold or silver medal.

Lebanon last won an Olympic medal at the 1980 Moscow Olympics, and Ms. Aoun was stopped just short of winning a medal by her Iranian opponent.

Kiani will face Kim Yu-jin from South Korea tonight, Thursday, August 18, to compete for the gold medal.

Kimia Alizadeh also has a chance to win a bronze medal with Kiani reaching the finals.
