Nasser Kanaani: The Verdicts Issued for the Ukrainian Plane Case Are Maximum

Nasser Kanaani says the verdicts issued for the Ukrainian plane case are maximal.

The Iranian government states that the court ruling for the defendants in the downing of the Ukrainian plane in Iran is maximal, but plaintiffs and defendants can appeal within the legal timeframe.

Nasser Kanaani, the spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, has said that the country has fulfilled all its obligations in accordance with the Chicago Convention and its own internal laws and regulations, and financial compensations have been allocated for the victims, which will be provided to the families.

A military court in Tehran yesterday announced the verdict for 10 defendants in this case, according to which the primary defendant has been sentenced to 13 years in prison.

The Association of Families of Victims of the Ukrainian Plane had called this court a show trial months ago and deemed the judicial process invalid.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic accepted after three days that the plane was shot down, but declared the cause to be an unintentional human error.
