National Student Council's Ali Ramazani, Olympiad Winner, Sentenced to 43 Months in Prison

The National Student Council reports that Ali Ramazani, an Olympiad winner, has been sentenced to 43 months in prison.

Ali Ramazani, a medalist of the 18th International Microelectronics Olympiad, has reportedly been sentenced to three years and seven months in prison by the Tehran Revolutionary Court.

According to the National Student Council, Mr. Ramazani, who is a student and researcher at Amirkabir University of Technology and a member of Iran’s microelectronics Olympiad team, has been sentenced based on a ruling issued on February 21 by Branch 26 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court. He was charged with assembly and collusion against internal and external security and propaganda against the Islamic Republic regime.

Ali Ramazani had previously won first place in the International Microelectronics Olympiad held in Armenia this fall.

Mr. Ramazani was arrested at his home on the evening of October 16.
