NATO deploys another Patriot system in southern Turkey
Turkey announced that NATO is deploying another Patriot system near the Incirlik base to strengthen air defense against missile threats related to the war with Iran.
The Turkish Ministry of Defense announced on Wednesday that NATO is deploying another Patriot missile defense system in the Adana province in the south of the country, an area where the Incirlik airbase is located and where US and several other countries’ forces are stationed.
Turkey, which has the second-largest army in NATO and shares a border with Iran, also announced last week the deployment of another Patriot system in the Malatya province in the southeast of the country.
According to the Turkish army, the new system is being deployed near a NATO radar base, and its purpose is to strengthen air defense against missile threats arising from the war with Iran.
The Incirlik base in the city of Adana is home to forces from Turkey, the US, Qatar, Spain, and Poland. Since the start of the US and Israel’s war with Iran, several ballistic missiles launched by Iran have been intercepted and destroyed by NATO defense systems on Turkish soil.
