Netanyahu and Erdogan celebrate the return to the good old days
In a phone conversation with Benjamin Netanyahu, the President of Turkey congratulated him on his electoral victory and supported Israel in recent events involving the military’s confrontation with Palestinians. He emphasized increasing cooperation between Turkey and the Israeli government. This was the first conversation between the two in nine years.
The tense and fluctuating relations of the past between the two sides during Netanyahu’s prime ministership provided a suitable opportunity for Erdogan to advance his own agenda and stage a hollow display of leadership among Islamic countries in the fight against Israel. Naturally, Netanyahu is delighted to join Erdogan in this game and spoke of a new era in relations between the two countries during his conversation with Erdogan.
