Netanyahu’s government bill passed initial approval in the Knesset

Netanyahu’s government bill has reached the initial approval of the Knesset.

Despite widespread protests and opposition, the Israeli parliament finally voted on Monday to advance the proposed reform of the country’s judicial system, which is supported by the hardline government of Benjamin Netanyahu.

While tens of thousands of Israelis gathered in the streets near the Knesset, expressing their protest with horns and sirens, the parliament members gave their initial positive vote to this proposal. Immediately after the preliminary vote, Benjamin Netanyahu reacted to this issue on his Twitter account, writing ‘One great night, one great day.’

From the beginning, it seemed that Netanyahu, with 64 seats out of a total of 120 in the Knesset, could have the support of the parliament to advance this proposal. After eight hours of session among the representatives, the controversial right-wing cabinet bill to reduce the powers of the judicial branch was finally approved in its first stage, with 63 votes in favor and 47 votes against.
