Netanyahu: Mossad played a role in thwarting a terrorist operation in Athens
Greek officials announced on Tuesday, March 28th (8th of Farvardin), the arrest of two Pakistani men accused of planning an attack on an Israeli restaurant in Athens.
These two Pakistani suspects, aged 27 and 29, whose identities have not been disclosed, have been charged with terrorist crimes. A third suspect, believed to be outside Greece, has also been charged in absentia with similar crimes.
The Athens News Agency reported, citing police officials, that these individuals were receiving orders from Pakistani nationals residing in Iran. The Greek police stated in a declaration that the arrest of these individuals helped dismantle a terrorist network that was being directed from abroad. The statement did not specifically mention Iran by name.
At the same time, in a rare move, the Israeli foreign intelligence agency Mossad issued a statement declaring that it cooperated with Greek police in these investigations. The statement mentioned that the investigations revealed this operation in Greece was part of a broader Iranian network that was directed from within Iran and operates in many countries.
