Netanyahu Rejects Biden’s Request on Judicial Changes

Just hours after the U.S. President asked the Israeli Prime Minister to abandon the plan to make changes in the judicial system, the Israeli Prime Minister responded negatively and swiftly, stating that he would not be swayed by foreign pressures.

U.S. President Joe Biden warned on Tuesday that the Israeli government cannot continue to insist on implementing the controversial judicial changes plan, which has caused unrest in the country for months, and continue on this path.

In response to these remarks, Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday praised the U.S. President’s commitment to Israel’s security in a statement, but added that he does not make decisions based on foreign pressures, even from the best of friends.

Netanyahu’s remarks come as hundreds of thousands of people and opposition parties in Israel have described the right-wing parliamentary actions as a governmental coup to change the country’s system from a democracy to a dictatorship.
