New concerns following fresh appointments in Netanyahu’s coalition government formation process
As Netanyahu, the incoming Prime Minister of Israel, has nearly finalized the formation of his coalition government, his agreements with extremist Israeli political leaders have become highly concerning for a significant portion of liberals and freedom advocates under this government, as well as for the Western supporters of the Israeli government.
While the domestic and international political and social consequences of handing key ministries to political extremists have made matters difficult for Netanyahu’s opponents and European and American governments, now a significant part of the Jewish community in Israel and other countries is witnessing Netanyahu’s surprising new appointments with astonishment.
Bibi has appointed one of the most extremist Jewish political clerics as Deputy Prime Minister and head of the department or even ministry of Jewish Identity. Avi Maoz, an extremist political cleric, is the only representative of his ultra-extremist party who has managed to enter the parliament and has gained serious concessions as a supporter of the government.
Yair Lapid, the current Prime Minister and future opposition leader, Benny Gantz, who is the current Defense Minister, and many political and social groups are issuing continuous statements and interviews condemning the appointment of this Israeli extremist. Serious signs of potential strong reactions from Western governments in the coming hours have also emerged.
