New Security Report on Iran’s Nuclear Program
The new report by the Director of the U.S. National Intelligence to Congress regarding Iran’s nuclear activities has become newsworthy, and the Wall Street Journal has reported on the contents of this report. Naturally, new dimensions of U.S. security assessments in this area will soon be revealed.
According to the assessments of U.S. intelligence agencies, the leader of Iran has not issued an order to advance to the weaponization stage of the military program, and Iran is not explicitly pursuing nuclear weapons.
However, these assessments indicate that Iran is on a path of specific actions that could lead to the production of nuclear weapons. Avril Haines, the Director of the U.S. National Intelligence, provided her routine periodic testimony to Congress in May about the threats facing the U.S. and explained the threats from Iran. In July, she issued a special statement revealing various aspects of Iran’s infiltration plans in target countries, addressing various aspects of cyber and online infiltration plans and the presence of its operatives in other countries. This statement marked the beginning of a new phase of publicly tracking and identifying agents linked to the Iranian regime.
