Niki Karimi, an Iranian actress and director, took the stage and delivered a speech last night during the Shooting Star 2023 award ceremony at the Berlin Film Festival.

Her outfit at this edition of the festival has sparked a lot of reactions on social media, with many linking it to the outcomes of the protests.

At the 73rd Berlin Film Festival, Iran’s political situation and the recent widespread protests were prominently highlighted. Golshifteh Farahani, one of the faces of these protests, is present as a judge in the main competition section of the festival.

The Berlin Film Festival expressed its solidarity with the Iranian people in light of the recent months’ protests through special programs.

The festival officially began on Thursday, February 16, and will continue until February 26, showcasing 300 films across several sections.
