North Korea launched a new type of ballistic missile

South Korea announced that on the morning of Thursday, April 13, North Korea launched a ballistic missile from near Pyongyang towards the Sea of Japan. The missile landed in the waters of the Sea of Japan after traveling a distance of 1,000 kilometers. A senior South Korean military official told AFP that the launched missile was likely a new type of ballistic missile using advanced solid fuel, indicating a potential technical advancement for Pyongyang’s prohibited weapons programs.

A senior U.S. defense analyst told Reuters that North Korea had previously tested short-range solid-fuel missiles, but this is the first time the country has launched a long-range missile with solid fuel.
