Norwegian State TV: US Embassy Guard in Norway Accused of Spying for Russia and Iran

Norwegian state television: Guard of the US Embassy in Norway accused of spying for Russia and Iran

Norwegian state television has reported that a Norwegian guard at the US Embassy in Oslo has been officially prosecuted on charges of spying for Russia and the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Norwegian police announced last December that they had arrested this 20-year-old individual. According to the police, he had been cooperating with intelligence officers and a large amount of digital data was seized from him at the time of his arrest.

The individual’s defense lawyer also confirmed at that time that his client had been in contact with Russian and Iranian intelligence officers but added that it was still unclear how confidential the information he possessed was and whether it fell under anti-espionage laws.

According to a new report by Norwegian television, on July 23, prosecutors in the country have officially charged him with espionage.

The individual’s name has not yet been disclosed, but if convicted, he could face a maximum sentence of 21 years in prison.
