Barter of Oil for Housing

A representative from Hamedan in the parliament has announced that a contract for the construction of 1.2 million housing units over four years has been signed with a Chinese company. This company will receive oil from Iran in exchange for building the housing.

According to Fars News Agency, quoting Ahmad Hossein Fallahi, the cost of constructing each square meter of housing in the market is between 10 to 12 million tomans, considering the minimums in small cities. Without naming the Chinese company, it was added that this foreign company has taken on the responsibility of constructing housing for an amount equivalent to 4 million and 700 thousand tomans per square meter. According to Fallahi, this project will utilize local and indigenous materials and workforce.

Previously, Ebrahim Raisi, the president of the thirteenth government, had promised the construction of 4 million housing units. Sometime later, Mohammad Mokhber, the first vice president of Ebrahim Raisi, stated that the government is not responsible for building housing but should assist in designing housing and providing facilities and land to the people.
