Oil Price Drop with Increased Hopes for Agreement on the Strait of Hormuz

Simultaneously with the rise in optimism among American officials about reaching an agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, the price of oil in global markets fell by more than 4%, and the price of Brent crude at times dropped below $80 per barrel.

This is while last week, with heightened concerns about a possible U.S. attack on Iran’s energy infrastructure, the price of Brent crude had surpassed $93 per barrel.

Scott Besant, the U.S. Treasury Secretary, has announced that an agreement with Iran regarding the Strait of Hormuz might be reached by Wednesday. Marco Rubio, the U.S. Secretary of State, has also reported progress in negotiations about the passage of ships through this waterway but emphasized that a final agreement has not yet been reached.
