Pakistan pleading with the Taliban to control Islamists
With the increase in terrorist operations by extremist Islamists in Pakistan, it seems the government in Islamabad sees the solution in seeking help from the leaders of the Afghan Taliban.
According to the French news agency, Faisal Karim Kundi, the special assistant to the Prime Minister of Pakistan, said on Saturday, February 4th, that the government intends to ask the Taliban to take action to prevent the use of Afghan soil for carrying out terrorist operations against Pakistan.
The assistant to Shehbaz Sharif stated that the Pakistani government will send a delegation to Kabul and Tehran for this purpose. A senior police official from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province says the talks in Kabul will be held with the highest Taliban authority, who apparently refers to Hibatullah Akhundzada, the leader of the extremist Islamists ruling Afghanistan.
No information has been released so far about the possible reason for the Pakistani delegation’s dispatch to Tehran. The Islamic Republic has not yet recognized the Taliban government, but it has had overt and covert relations with it in the past.
