Parham Maghsoodloo Rises to 14th in World Rankings

Parham Maghsoodloo rose to 14th place in the world ranking

Parham Maghsoodloo, Iran’s chess grandmaster, has made a remarkable leap in recent weeks, climbing to 14th place in the world ranking.

The number one spot is held by Magnus Carlsen from Norway, and Alireza Firouzja, who competes for France, is in fifth place. Maghsoodloo moved up to 14th in the world by defeating Aravind from India in the ongoing Grand Swiss tournament.

Parham led Iran’s national team to a gold medal in the Asian Games in Hangzhou. His progress continues in the Qatar Masters and now in the Grand Swiss. The 2018 World Junior Champion says his next goal is to be among the top 10 players in the world.

Maghsoodloo spoke about the pressure of the competitions, saying, ‘I’ve been used to playing like this since I was 12, and it’s normal for me. While you’re young and have energy, you should take advantage of the opportunity. As you get older, you might not be able to play more than five or six tournaments a year.’
