Parliament Member: Ministry of Communications Should Sell VPNs Directly to People, Not Through Intermediaries

A parliament member suggests the Ministry of Communications sell VPNs directly to the people, not through intermediaries.

Alhavirdi Dehghani, a member of the Parliament’s Industry Committee, in response to Iran Watchdog’s question about whether the Ministry of Communications benefits from the market formed for selling VPNs, said

A black market has emerged, and VPNs are being sold at inflated prices, with the major profits going to brokers and privileged individuals.

The Ministry of Communications has paved the way for VPN sellers and brokers; otherwise, how is the money being transferred through Iran’s payment gateways?

The Ministry of Communications should sell VPNs directly to the people, not through intermediaries.

The government and the Ministry of Communications should intervene, and if necessary, provide VPNs themselves. Even if they offer them at half the price of current VPNs, it would benefit the government and be a good source of income for the Ministry of Communications.

There should be transparency about who is providing the VPNs, and intermediaries should be eliminated.
