The spokesperson for the Parliament’s presiding board said it’s time for Iraq to prove its brotherhood.
The spokesperson for the Parliament’s presiding board, in response to recent consultations between the Iraqi Foreign Minister and the U.S. Secretary of State regarding the release of Iran’s blocked funds in Iraq, stated that Iran has always supported Iraq in difficult times, and now it’s time for them to prove their brotherhood.
Alireza Salimi, referring to the equivalent of 6 billion dollars of Iran’s blocked funds in Iraq and the necessity of their release, said that the Iraqis know it was Iran that helped them during tough times, so they should not interact with the Americans in a way that harms our country.
The representative of the people of Tehran, Rey, Shemiranat, Islamshahr, and Pardis in the Islamic Consultative Assembly further emphasized that Iran has taken steps towards trade with Iraq with a developmental view, and especially at critical times when Iraq needed electricity and gas, it helped them. Therefore, it is necessary for the Iraqi side to fully cooperate with Iran in releasing Iran’s funds.
A member of the Industries and Mines Commission of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, in conclusion, stated that we helped Iraq at their request during wartime, and thus the Iraqis should not allow countries like the United States to interfere in the bilateral relations between Iraq and Iran and become an obstacle to receiving Iran’s funds.
