Persepolis won the derby

In the first match of the sixth week of the Premier League, the Tehran derby, which is considered the most crucial match of the league, was held, and Persepolis managed to defeat Esteghlal 1-0.

Hossein Kanaani scored the only goal of the match from the penalty spot in the 93rd minute. This penalty was awarded due to a foul by Ramin Rezaeian, a former Persepolis player, on Saeed Mehri, a former Esteghlal player.

Due to the unpreparedness of the Azadi Stadium, this match was held in Arak. Juan Carlos Garrido, the Spanish head coach of Persepolis, did not have his Uzbek star player, Oston Urunov, available due to injury.

With this victory, Persepolis reached 11 points and climbed to second place, while Esteghlal, despite Javad Nekounam’s promise of winning the championship, found itself in tenth place.

In this match, Mohammad Navazi, the assistant coach of Esteghlal, was sent off from the bench after receiving a red card. The throwing of water bottles by fans of both teams and the constant use of lasers affected the flow of the game.
