Politico claimed that Michael Anton became the head of the technical team for nuclear negotiations with Iran.
Politico reported, quoting two American officials, that the Trump administration has appointed Michael Anton, one of the senior officials of the U.S. State Department, as the head of the technical team for negotiations with the Islamic Republic.
Anton, the director of the political planning division of the U.S. State Department, has taken charge of leading a team of about 12 experienced government experts to negotiate the technical details of the agreement.
The first round of expert negotiations between Anton and Iranian officials is set to take place on Saturday in Oman.
Following this, discussions will continue between Steve Witkoff, Trump’s special representative, and Abbas Araghchi, the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic.
Anton had previously accompanied Witkoff in the previous round of negotiations held in the capital of Italy.
One of the U.S. government officials said about this selection that Anton, given his experience and deep understanding, is the right person for this mission.
He will ensure that Trump’s agenda in this matter is pursued.
