At least five people have died
An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.7 shook the coastal areas of eastern Indonesia on the morning of Saturday, August 24, causing damage to buildings and regional infrastructure.
The governor of East Nusa Tenggara province has announced that at least five people have died due to falling debris. However, Indonesia’s National Disaster Management Agency has so far officially reported one death and four injuries.
After the main earthquake, dozens of aftershocks occurred, and tsunami waves less than one meter high were recorded in several areas. The tsunami warning was also lifted about three hours later.
Around two thousand people in the Nagekeo area have evacuated their homes. This earthquake has also damaged several homes, warehouses, and government buildings, and in some areas, it has caused power outages and disrupted transportation.
