The President of the European Commission is amazed by the struggle and resilience of Iranian women.
Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, in a European Parliament session on the occasion of International Women’s Day, which was attended by Shirin Ebadi, the Iranian Nobel Peace Prize laureate, said that the world is amazed by the struggle and resilience of Iranian women.
Ms. von der Leyen also referred to recent events in Iran, saying that the struggle and bravery of Iranian women have propelled women forward and inspired them worldwide.
In another part of her speech, Ms. von der Leyen referred to Shirin Ebadi, the Iranian Nobel Peace Prize laureate, saying, ‘People like you motivate us to strive for a world where young girls and boys can live equally. You have fought for women’s rights in Iran for decades. They tried to silence you, imprisoned you, forced you into exile, but you continued to fight courageously day by day.’
