The Prime Minister of Serbia Resigned
After weeks of protests in Serbia, Miloš Vučević, the Prime Minister of this country, announced that he is stepping down from his position. Student protests began in November of last year following the collapse of the train station roof in the city of Novi Sad, which resulted in the death of 15 people. Opponents accuse the government of negligence and corruption.
Vučević said in a press conference on Tuesday, January 28th, that this decision was made entirely based on my own will. The reason for his resignation was the attack by a group of ruling party supporters on protesting students.
Vučević said that his resignation aims to calm the situation and prevent further divisions in society. Additionally, Milan Đurić, the mayor of Novi Sad, also stepped down from his position.
