Protest Against Suspension of National Library of Iran Members Due to Improper Hijab

Objection to the suspension of National Library of Iran members due to improper hijab

The National Library recently suspended the memberships of several women for violating the mandatory hijab rule.

It is said that the National Library and Archives of Iran informed them of the suspension via text message.

In a published statement, it is mentioned that today, however, the National Library, which logically should be a cultural institution, has become a vanguard of oppression and suppression, and has taken up the banner of excluding researchers and students from the public sphere of the country.

It is reported that in the text message, security officials avoided using the word ‘suspension’ due to hijab to prevent potential reactions, and simply referred the user to clause 7 of article 10 of the membership guidelines.

This clause of the guidelines obliges members to fully adhere to Islamic dress codes and maintain religious, cultural, and social decorum within the organization.
