Putin Calls Up Another 150,000 for Military Service

Russian President Vladimir Putin has issued the spring draft order for 150,000 citizens to join military service. This announcement was published on the Kremlin’s website on Sunday, April 1.

According to a new law passed by the Russian parliament last July, the maximum age for conscription has been increased from 27 to 30 years.

This law will come into effect on January 1, 2024. All men over 18 years old are also required to complete one year of military service.

Last September, Vladimir Putin also issued the autumn draft order for 130,000 people to join military service. The spring draft last year included 147,000 citizens of the country.

Following the heavy human losses suffered by the Russian army in the occupied areas of Ukraine, the Russian Ministry of Defense has promised not to send conscripts to the war. However, reports indicate a continued widespread flight of young Russians from military service.

In this context, the Russian Ministry of Defense released a document on Sunday showing that conscripts who have completed their one-year service have been discharged. These individuals can voluntarily request to be sent to the war front.
