Putin’s Absence at Ebrahim Raisi’s Funeral

Following the attendance of the Russian Duma’s Speaker as the country’s representative at Ebrahim Raisi’s funeral, the Kremlin stated that Vladimir Putin personally made this decision.

While leaders from several countries traveled to Tehran to attend the ceremony, Putin’s absence as a main ally of the Islamic Republic has attracted attention.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced on Wednesday, May 23, that we participated in the farewell ceremony, not the burial. After the Iranian side announced the farewell ceremony and its date and location, President Putin made this decision.

According to Russia’s TASS news agency, he added that Vyacheslav Volodin, the Duma’s Speaker, was chosen by Vladimir Putin to travel to Tehran.
