Qalibaf: Police Should Confront Hijab Violators with Deterrent Measures

Qalibaf: Police should confront those violating hijab norms in a deterrent manner

Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf called on the government, the judiciary, and the Iranian police chief to confront the few who violate hijab norms in a deterrent way.

In his speech before the start of the public session of parliament, he said that a positive approach should be taken towards those whose hijab is weak, but a negative approach should be adopted when dealing with norm violators.

Qalibaf went on to say that unfortunately, those responsible for this matter have, over many years, contributed the most to distancing part of society from the culture of hijab and modesty due to their lack of effort and ineffective actions.

He also admitted that the previous methods of the morality police were ineffective and costly, and emphasized the need to employ correct methods to achieve the desired outcome.

Recently, Iran’s Ministry of Interior announced in an official statement that it will not back down on the issue of hijab.
