Qalibaf cites the reason for the delay in the hijab law as its coincidence with the issues of 2022
Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, the Speaker of the Islamic Republic’s Parliament, confirmed in a message on the social network X that the implementation of the so-called chastity and hijab law has been halted by a directive from the Supreme National Security Council in a meeting with all members present.
In this message, the Speaker of the Islamic Parliament wrote that even before the current law was passed, there was a law on hijab, and there is no legal vacuum in this area.
It was supposed that a law would come that would pay attention to both the positive and negative aspects.
Qalibaf further claimed that in the current law, the morality police have been completely removed, but due to the government’s issues with some other topics, it is supposed that the parliament will decide on amending the law.
Before publishing this post, Qalibaf also stated in a television interview that the Secretariat of the Supreme National Security Council, based on its authority, felt that issuing the so-called chastity and hijab law, due to its coincidence with the issues of 2022, might create tensions in society, and the decision was to postpone this matter.
