The head of the judiciary in Qom says if we don’t act on our words, women will become more defiant.
The head of the judiciary of Qom province has announced a serious determination by the judiciary to confront the lack of hijab and says if the government doesn’t act on its threats, women who move around in public places without the mandatory hijab will become more defiant.
Ali Mozaffari said on Wednesday during a meeting with the custodian of the Shrine of Hazrat Masoumeh in Qom that the law has declared unveiling a crime, the Supreme Leader has deemed it religiously and legally forbidden, and the head of the judiciary has emphasized a serious confrontation.
He reported efforts to use all capacities to counter unveiling and said that offenders, if they see that a statement is made but not acted upon, will become more defiant. Therefore, if a statement is made, it must be pursued and implemented seriously.
Despite strict measures and threats such as sending warning messages and impounding vehicles, and sealing thousands of businesses, many women and girls in Iran continue to defy the mandatory hijab in public places.
Some of them share photos of themselves in their desired attire in public places on social media with captions like ‘practicing freedom.’
