Rafael Grossi: The Agency and Iran's Agreement Largely Depends on Upcoming Negotiations

Rafael Grossi: The agreement between the Agency and Iran largely depends on future negotiations

The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency said on Monday, March 6, during the opening session of the Board of Governors’ quarterly meeting, that the Agency has not been able to verify Iran’s nuclear activities over the past two years, and it is of vital importance that Iran adheres to the JCPOA commitments and the agreement reached this week in Tehran.

Rafael Grossi also said in a press conference in Vienna that the implementation of the agreement between the Agency and Iran, which was achieved during his recent visit to Tehran, largely depends on future negotiations.

After returning from Tehran, the Director General had said that Iran has expressed readiness to cooperate regarding the three locations where uranium traces were found and agrees to reinstall additional monitoring equipment, such as cameras, at nuclear sites.

However, he said on Monday in Vienna that the manner of implementing the agreements still needs to be discussed and negotiated with Tehran, and he cannot guarantee its success.
