Rafael Grossi: The JCPOA may no longer be effective
The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency warned that Iran’s nuclear ambitions should not be overlooked and emphasized that reviving the JCPOA may no longer be effective, and Tehran and world powers should negotiate a new agreement.
In an interview with the Financial Times published on Thursday, December 9, Rafael Grossi said the international community should not lose sight of the dangerous aspects of Iran’s nuclear program due to the focus on the Israel-Hamas war.
Last September, the US and Iran reached an agreement for a prisoner exchange and the release of six billion dollars of the Islamic Republic’s assets in South Korea, which increased hopes for the two countries to reach a nuclear agreement.
Mr. Grossi stated that although the pace of growth of Iran’s 60% enriched uranium has slowed, it continues to grow. According to him, Iran previously produced 15 kilograms of 60% enriched uranium per month, but in recent months this figure has been about seven kilograms per month.
