Raisi and Lukashenko seek cooperation to counter sanctions
Ebrahim Raisi and Alexander Lukashenko emphasized the joint cooperation of the Islamic Republic and Belarus to counter international sanctions against these two countries.
The President of Iran said at a joint press conference with the President of Belarus in Tehran on Monday that they are determined to increase their regional and trans-regional relations with Belarus.
He referred to the Islamic Republic and Belarus, which are considered close partners and allies of Moscow and Beijing, as independent countries and claimed that the cooperation between Tehran and Minsk could be a way to counter sanctions.
The two countries, Iran and Belarus, have been sanctioned by Western countries for various reasons, including human rights violations.
Sanctions on Belarus have intensified following the suppression of protests after the presidential election, and sanctions on the Islamic Republic have increased after the crackdown on nationwide protests in recent months.
