Raisi entered Damascus after 13 years

Ebrahim Raisi, the President of Iran, has arrived in Damascus, the capital of Syria, for an official visit.

This is the first visit by an Iranian president to Syria since the start of the civil wars in the country.

Mr. Raisi’s visit is two days long, and he is scheduled to meet with Bashar al-Assad, the President of Syria, in the coming hours.

Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, the Foreign Minister, Mehrdad Bazrpash, the Minister of Roads and Urban Development, Javad Owji, the Oil Minister, Amir Mohammadreza Ashtiani, the Defense Minister, Gholamhossein Esmaeili, the Chief of Staff, and Mohammad Jamshidi, the Deputy for Political Affairs of the President’s Office, are accompanying Mr. Raisi on this trip.

Iran, along with Russia, has supported Bashar al-Assad’s government during the protests in Syria that turned into a civil war.
