Rastak from Soil and Sun
The Rastak group unveiled their latest album titled ‘From Soil and Sun’. The tracks in this album are inspired by the folk music and musical traditions of Hormozgan, Kurdistan, Lorestan, and Baluchistan. Additionally, a romantic single derived from Afghan music is also included in this album.
Behzad Pournaghi, the manager of the Rastak group, said about the album ‘From Soil and Sun’: ‘The culture and life of various ethnic groups have an ancient bond with these two elements, water and soil, and soil and sun are the foundations of the melodies and narratives of this album.’
In this album, we travel to the heart of the stories and emotions of these people through this global language of music, and in each piece, we narrate a story of the pains, joys, and memories of generations to connect cultures.
According to Pournaghi, the tracks in this album are rooted in the feelings and narratives of resistance and hope of the people of Kurdistan, the joys and sorrows of the people of Lorestan, the depth and subtlety of Baluchistan’s music, the vibrant colors and rhythms of Hormozgan, and the love and pain of the people of Afghanistan.
Pournaghi added, ‘In this album, as always, we have strived to preserve the authenticity of folk music while reimagining it in new and contemporary forms, and through the language of music, be narrators of ancient musical traditions.’
In recent years, the Rastak group has aimed to explore the musical culture of countries within the Iranian cultural sphere by collaborating with artists from neighboring countries. Examples of Rastak group’s experiences include concerts in Sulaymaniyah, Iraq, Istanbul, Turkey, Expo 2017 in Kazakhstan, and the Dhaka Folklore Festival in Bangladesh.
After years of activity within Iran, since 2021, the Rastak group has expanded its activities beyond the country’s borders and is currently conducting their global tours.
