Reaction to the Suspension of Sazandegi Newspaper: Revisiting the Harsh Headlines of Newspapers Opposed to Rouhani’s Government
The Ham-Mihan newspaper, with the headline ‘The Era of Freedom: Attacks on the Government,’ revisited a handful of the numerous harsh and consequence-free headlines from newspapers opposing Rouhani’s cabinet. It reacted to the suspension of Sazandegi newspaper under Raisi’s government, accused of publishing several critical headlines, including ‘Victory Lap with Burkina Faso’ and ‘Meat Revolt.’
In this report, we will look at some of the criticisms, accusations, and insults that Kayhan and newspapers aligned with it directed at Hassan Rouhani’s eleventh and twelfth administrations over eight years, which rarely resulted in suspensions or severe penalties.
Unfortunately, two short-term suspensions occurred, and these actions were met with strong reactions from these media outlets. For instance, the few-hour suspension of Kayhan newspaper was met with its front page headline ‘Blind Revenge on Kayhan’s Enlightenments,’ and Vatan-e Emrooz also reacted to its suspension with the headline ‘The Purple Blade.’
