Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will hold Turkey’s elections on May 14.
Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the President of Turkey, has confirmed that the presidential and parliamentary elections in the country will be held on May 14 this year.
Following the severe earthquake in southern Turkey and Syria last month, there were earlier speculations about the possibility of postponing the elections, but today Mr. Erdoğan confirmed the date.
It is expected that Erdoğan will face serious challenges to win the elections again.
These elections are a significant test for Mr. Erdoğan, who has been the Prime Minister and President for the past twenty years.
The elections will determine whether Turkey will continue on the path of Islamism or not, and it will also impact the country’s relations with several NATO allies with whom Turkey has had strained relations.
