Reconciliation in the Middle East Continues: Saudi Foreign Minister's Visit to Syria After 12 Years

Reconciliation in the Middle East continues with the Saudi Foreign Minister’s visit to Syria after 12 years

Bashar al-Assad, the President of Syria, while a large part of the country remains under the control of his opponents, met in Damascus with Faisal bin Rahman, the Saudi Foreign Minister, to discuss diplomatic reconciliation with Riyadh.

The Saudi Foreign Minister’s visit to Damascus is the most significant step taken so far towards ending a decade of Syria’s isolation in the Arab world.

Faisal bin Farhan arrived in Damascus on Tuesday, a week after the Syrian Foreign Minister visited Riyadh.

The two countries agreed last month to resume diplomatic relations.
