Reformist activist Rakei: Our effort was to get people to the polls, but it didn’t happen.
Fatemeh Rakei, a reformist political activist, said the important issue is not the statement of the Reform Front nor the statement of 110 reformists, but our main issue is the people. What should we do to make people hopeful about improving the country’s conditions? With what trust will people come to the polls again to reduce class disparity?
She continued, ‘Our foundation is the Constitution and the people’s vote. If we acted based on this foundation, significant work would have been done in the country.’
We couldn’t convince our prominent figures to participate in the elections, and other individuals were not approved. The Reform Front has announced that unfortunately, due to the Guardian Council’s performance in Tehran, it could not provide a list. The ballot box is very important, and our effort was to get people to the polls despite all the problems, but we couldn’t present a list in the elections. The Reform Front’s statement mentions that we don’t have a list in Tehran, but we are not pursuing a boycott or non-participation.

What should we do to make people hopeful about improving the country’s conditions? With what trust will people come to the polls again to reduce class disparity? Can the government, the Ministry of Interior, and the Guardian Council convince people to participate in the elections?
