Half a billion dollars of Iranian money in Iraq released with U.S. authorization

The Secretary-General of the Iran-Iraq Joint Chamber of Commerce says that the U.S. has allowed Iraq to release and pay 500 million dollars of Iran’s funds held in Iraqi banks.

The Secretary-General of the Iran-Iraq Joint Chamber of Commerce announced that during the recent visit of Iraq’s Foreign Minister, the U.S. permitted the payment of 500 million dollars of Iran’s funds in Iraqi banks.

Hamid Hosseini’s reference is to the visit of Fuad Hussein, Iraq’s Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, to Washington in late February of the past year.

According to reports, during this visit, significant agreements were reached to expand cooperation between the two countries in the fields of trade, culture, health, and education.
