IRGC’s Request for Government to Pay Debt for Installing Facial Recognition Cameras
A leaked document with a highly confidential stamp indicates that the Tharallah Headquarters of the IRGC, which plays a key role in suppressing public protests, has asked the government to pay its debt for installing facial recognition cameras in Tehran’s metro.
This document was obtained during the hacking of the Iranian presidency’s website on the 29th of May, which a group named ‘Uprising Until Overthrow’ claimed responsibility for.
In the continuation of this letter, the Tharallah Headquarters described Tehran’s metro as one of the surprising and incident-prone areas in security conditions, especially during unrest and riots, and emphasized the need to upgrade its monitoring system and CCTV cameras.
Hossein Nejat, deputy commander of the IRGC at the Tharallah Headquarters, in part of his letter, asked the government to pay serious attention to Tehran’s metro to prevent any anti-security incidents. The wear and low quality of the monitoring system and CCTV cameras in Tehran’s metro have reduced their effectiveness during the recent unrest in the capital.
