Resignation of Iranian Coach After Being Called a Terrorist in Brazil

Kousha Delshad, the Iranian coach, resigned from his position as head coach of the Brazilian football team Atletico Comercial just one day after his appointment due to being labeled a terrorist and facing xenophobic attacks from fans.

Atletico Comercial is a regional team that plays in the second division league of the Piauí state in Brazil, which is contested by eight teams.

According to reports, Mr. Delshad has been working with local Brazilian teams since 2014.

The team led by Mr. Delshad had only earned three points in six weeks, and a day after his appointment, they faced the River team and lost 4-0.

In response to the incident, Mr. Delshad stated that a coach who takes over a club in a relegation situation cannot perform miracles with just two days of training.

He said that he does not deserve the bigoted and xenophobic insults like the chants of ‘Hey terrorist coach’ from the stands.
