Return of 5,000 Afghan migrants from Iran to Afghanistan

The Taliban’s Ministry of Refugees says that in recent days, about 5,000 Afghan citizens have returned from Iran.

Abdul Matlib, the spokesperson of this ministry, said that 2,400 of these returnees were forcibly deported from Iran, and the rest left the country voluntarily.

He added that most of those who were deported from Iran were individuals who attempted to enter the country illegally and were arrested and expelled by Iranian security forces.

After the Taliban’s return to power, tens of thousands of refugees have sought asylum in Iran and Pakistan. A large number of Afghans also illegally travel to Iran for work or use the country as a route to reach Turkey and European countries.
