Reuters News Agency Boycotts UN Memorial for Raisi

Reuters News Agency: The U.S. boycotts the UN memorial for Raisi

Reuters has reported that the U.S. government will boycott the Thursday ceremony at the United Nations to pay tribute to Ebrahim Raisi, the President of Iran, who recently died in a plane crash.

An American official, who wished to remain anonymous, told the news agency, ‘We will not participate in this event in any form.’

The official also stated that the United Nations should stand with the people of Iran rather than hold a memorial for a repressive official who has been in power for decades. Raisi was involved in numerous and horrific human rights violations, including the extrajudicial killings of thousands of prisoners in 1988.
