Reuters: Pakistan and Kuwait Discuss Defense Agreement in Exchange for Energy Cooperation

Reuters: Pakistan and Kuwait are negotiating a defense agreement in exchange for energy cooperation

Reuters reported, citing five informed sources, that Pakistan and Kuwait have initiated preliminary talks to expand defense cooperation, an agreement that would bring energy cooperation and investment to Islamabad.

According to the report, Kuwait seeks an agreement similar to the Pakistan-Saudi Arabia defense pact, which could include the deployment of combat forces, drones, and Pakistani defense systems. However, a Pakistani official emphasized that deploying combat troops is not currently on the agenda.

In return, Pakistan is seeking assurances of energy cooperation, including the establishment of a fuel storage project and attracting investment from Kuwait. According to sources, these negotiations are still in the early stages and may face complexities due to the increasing tensions between Iran and the United States.

Official representatives from Pakistan and Kuwait have not yet commented on these negotiations.
