Sara Khademalsharieh, the Iranian chess grandmaster who participated in her last international competition without the mandatory hijab, has received warning messages advising her not to return to Iran.

Reuters, citing sources close to this Iranian athlete, reported that Khademalsharieh received warnings after appearing without a hijab at the World Chess Championship in Almaty, indicating that she should not return to Iran.

This source, who did not reveal their name, told Reuters that Ms. Khademalsharieh received numerous phone calls from Iran after the competition, with some advising her not to return to the country and others offering assistance if she chose to go back.

The source added that the athlete’s family and relatives have also been threatened. According to Reuters, Sara Khademalsharieh arrived in Spain on Tuesday.
