Reuters: Trump has asked NATO for a security commitment for the Strait of Hormuz

According to Reuters, Donald Trump has asked NATO to provide specific commitments in the coming days to help secure the Strait of Hormuz.

Two European diplomats have said that NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte has conveyed this request to some European capitals.

This request was made after Rutte’s meeting with Trump in Washington and comes at a time when the recent war with Iran has caused disagreements within the alliance.

One of the diplomats also reported dissatisfaction in Washington, saying that the United States did not have extensive consultations with its allies before the war began or even after it.

Trump also criticized NATO, describing the alliance as disappointing and saying that the organization only responds when under pressure.
