Richard Ratcliffe accuses Britain of taking the issue of hostages in Iran lightly.
On the anniversary of Nazanin Zaghari’s release and her return to Britain, The Guardian reported on Thursday, March 16, quoting Richard Ratcliffe, her husband, who accused the British government of taking the issue of hostages held by the Islamic Republic lightly.
Mr. Ratcliffe accused the British government of telling its parliament that since his wife’s release, it has not identified any cases of hostage-taking or torture of British citizens by foreign governments and has also removed torture statistics from its annual human rights report.
The Guardian wrote that Nazanin Zaghari and her legal advisors had asked the British government to sanction 10 Iranian officials who, according to them, are responsible for intensifying the Islamic Republic’s behavior in taking foreign nationals hostage. However, so far, only one person has been sanctioned by Britain, and three others had previously been sanctioned for reasons other than state hostage-taking.
