Riding the wave of joy for the people
Kamala Harris delivered the final and main speech at the Democratic Party convention, and with the enthusiasm and support of the Democrats present, she began a not-so-long battle.
The Democrats, with a message of freedom, a battle for the people, joy, and being American, presented a completely different image from the Republican convention and Trump’s rhetoric.
The new foundation of the party’s rhetoric, in a situation where Biden is no longer the party’s flagbearer, is vitality and liveliness.
This vitality and joy were not quite imaginable with Biden’s presence, although polls have shown a favor towards Harris. It should be noted that Harris’s entry into the election has created key changes, which are also reflected in these polls.
Biden astonishingly attracted voter support among older men and generally among elderly and white Americans, and although he wasn’t ahead of Trump in this particular group, the gap between them was narrower than ever.
Now, naturally, a young, non-white woman has a tough job attracting their votes.
Overall, the puzzle of attracting white men’s votes has become much more complicated with Harris’s presence.
No poll during Harris’s entry into the election indicates a firm foothold for Harris in this group.
The main speakers at the convention and the spirit governing the gathering were focused on moving beyond racial divisions and polarizations, but this significant feature cannot be forgotten overnight. The essence of the political battles during the Obama era was the conservatives’ maximum effort to create mental insecurity and fear among white Americans, warning them that their America was collapsing and others were taking it over.
In 2008, the excitement for change and anger from the Bush era attracted many men to Obama, especially when he defeated Hillary and became the party’s candidate. These weeks will be weeks of effort by Democrats to gain the trust of men, particularly white men. So far, Harris’s campaign’s main slogan is for the people.
This slogan is derived from Harris’s identity and professional background as a prosecutor and district attorney, and she clearly presented this in her speech.
As a prosecutor, who introduced herself to the judge as Kamala Harris on behalf of the people, Harris has promised a joyful fight.
Her husband seriously and explicitly presented this idea in his speech. Harris is a joyful fighter who fights for the people. This trait has been linked to Harris’s background as a state prosecutor and district attorney, and her joy has been showcased with her heartfelt laughter.
If the Democrats link this spirit and approach to her Caribbean and Jamaican heritage from her father’s side, it’s a suitable starting point for attracting the Latino vote, where the Democrats’ situation among this colorful and very diverse racial group is disastrous. Ten weeks remain, and in reality, much less, as in two weeks, mail-in voting will begin in some states.
Perhaps the most important upcoming event is the debate between Harris and Trump.
This joyful fight is against an opponent who has lost his rhetoric and has only taken to tarnishing the opponent’s image to redefine himself. Trump has explicitly said that he has the votes he needs and doesn’t need to gather new ones.
These statements are naturally childish showmanship.
The art of his campaign managers in 2020 was attracting non-political voters and those unfamiliar with the ballot box.
This year, they will follow the same policy, and the Democrats have plans for this group as well. Will the message of joy be appealing to the disillusioned?
